German Tree Cake Bites (Petit Fours)
- 1-1/2 cup All-purpose Flour
- 1-1/4 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Butter, Softened
- 5 whole Eggs
- 1/3 cups Cornstarch
- 1/3 cups Heavy Cream
- 2 Tablespoons Rum (or Rum Extract)
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 teaspoons Nutmeg
- 8 ounces, weight Milk Chocolate Candy Bar
- Turn the broiler of your oven on low. Coat an 8x8 inch baking pan or casserole dish with tin foil, then spray it with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients (except the chocolate) with an electric mixer until very smooth. Now place 3-4 tablespoons (the one you use for eating, not the measuring kind) of the batter in your baking dish. Brush the dough out evenly.
- Put under the broiler for about 3 minutes (always have an eye on it and don't let it burn; it should just be slightly golden on top). Take out of the oven and place 3-4 more tablespoons on it, repeat the broiling process. Go on like that until all batter is used (about 7-9 layers).
- Take out of the form and let cool completely. Cut cooled cake into 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
- Melt chocolate in the microwave and brush each piece with chocolate. Let chocolate set before serving.
- Best results are being reached after letting them rest and develop their flavors for 3 days.
