Steak Surprise
- 1 to 2 lb. steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 Tbsp. minced onions
- 1 c. butter
- 1 (3 oz.) can mushrooms
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 c. cream of mushroom soup
- 2 c. wide noodles, cooked
- 1/4 c. evaporated milk
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 tsp. salt
- dash of pepper
- 1 c. garlic flavored crumbs or croutons
- 1/4 c. Cheddar cheese, grated
- Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
- Saute steak and onions in 1 tablespoon of butter until lightly browned.
- Add liquid from mushrooms, bay leaf and Worcestershire sauce.
- Cover, simmer gently 30 minutes or until meat is tender.
- Remove bay leaf.
- Combine steak with pan juices, mushrooms, soup, noodles, remaining butter, milk, water, salt and pepper.
- Put in 1 1/2-quart wide and shallow casserole dish.
- Sprinkle with croutons.
- Cover with cheese.
- Bake at 325u0b0 for 1 hour.
