French Onion Soup
- 4-1/2 cups Sweet White Onion, Thinly Sliced
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- 2 cups Water
- 2 teaspoons Beef Bouillon
- 10 ounces, fluid Can Beef Broth
- 1/2 cups Brandy
- 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
- 1 whole Baguette, Whole Wheat
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- Salt And Pepper, to taste
- 6 slices Gruyere Cheese
- In a large saute pan, fry onions with the sugar in melted butter until caramelized, 10-12 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add to slow cooker along with water, beef bouillon, broth, brandy and thyme. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours.
- Slice baguette into bite-sized pieces and place on a rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Bake in a 325u0b0F oven for 15 mn. until crisp and golden. Cool and store in a ziploc bag.
- Ladle soup into broiler proof bowls and top with croutons and cheese. Broil in the oven until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Serve and enjoy.
