Cabbage Stroganoff
- 1/4 c. bacon drippings or vegetable oil
- 1 c. chopped onions
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 small or 1/2 large head cabbage, chopped
- 1 c. water
- 1 pkg. Lipton onion soup mix
- 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
- 1 c. sour cream
- In a large heavy skillet, heat drippings or oil.
- Saute onions until limp.
- Add beef and cook until browned.
- Add cabbage and 3/4 cup water.
- Cover and simmer over medium heat until cabbage is wilted.
- Sprinkle with onion soup mix and stir, mixing thoroughly. Add mushroom soup.
- Rinse can with remaining water and add to skillet.
- Stir in sour cream.
- Cover and simmer over low heat until cabbage is tender (30 to 45 minutes).
- Serve plain or with mashed potatoes, rice or noodles.
