Pizza(Better Than Traditional)
- cornmeal for sprinkling
- 1 Tbsp. oil
- 1/2 c. minced onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (35 oz.) can whole tomatoes, crushed and drained (about 2 c.)
- 5 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh or 1 3/4 dried basil, divided
- 2 tsp. chopped fresh or 1/2 tsp. dried oregano, divided
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- pizza dough for one 12-inch pie
- 8 oz. fresh or packaged Mozzarella cheese, shredded (2 c.)
- shredded fresh basil for garnish (optional)
- Preheat oven to 450u0b0.
- Lightly oil 12-inch pizza pan. Sprinkle with cornmeal.
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in saucepan over medium heat.
- Add onion and garlic; cook 2 minutes.
- Add tomatoes, 4 1/2 teaspoons basil or 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, salt and pepper.
- Cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Press dough into pan.
- Cover with sauce.
- Top with cheese.
- Sprinkle with remaining basil and oregano.
- Bake until crust is golden brown, about 20 minutes.
- Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with fresh basil, if desired.
