Saucepan Brownies
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 pkg. (2 layer size) chocolate cake, prepared according to pkg. directions and cooled
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- dash of salt
- 1 lb. 4 oz. can frozen, pitted, tart red cherries, thawed
- 1 tsp. rum extract
- 1 c. softened butter or margarine
- 4 1/2 c. sifted confectioners sugar
- 2 envelopes (2 oz.) no melt unsweetened chocolate
- 3 egg yolks
- buttercream frosting
- Blend the granulated sugar, cornstarch and salt.
- Stir in cherries; cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until thick and clear.
- Reduce heat; cook 2 minutes more.
- Stir in rum extract; chill thoroughly.
