Golden Apple Bars

  1. First, make the crust: Cream together butter, shortening and confectioner's sugar. Blend in flour. Pat into a 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
  2. While that is baking, prepare the filling. Stir together chopped apples, melted butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Spread over cookie layer. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
  3. For the glaze, combine confectioner;s sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir in milk as needed until smooth then glaze bars while still slightly warm.
  4. Enjoy these delicious squares warm or cold.
