Brown Sugar And Apple Frozen Yogurt
- 32 ounces, fluid Plain Or Vanilla Low-fat Yogurt
- 4 whole Small Apples
- 1 cup Light Brown Sugar, Divided
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoons Ground Nutmeg
- Line a strainer with cheesecloth, and place the strainer in a large mixing bowl. Pour the yogurt into the cheesecloth, cover and refrigerate for 6-8 hours. Discard the liquid that accumulates in the bowl and measure out two cups of the strained and thickened yogurt.
- Dice the apples and combine with 1/3 cup brown sugar, the cinnamon and the nutmeg in a small saucepan. Heat over medium-low. A sort of syrup will form in the pan from the brown sugar and apple juice. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are softened and the syrup is reduced by approximately half. Cover and refrigerate until needed.
- Combine the yogurt and remaining 2/3 cup brown sugar in your ice cream maker, and process according to your ice cream maker's instructions. After 10-15 minutes, add the apples. Freeze any uneaten frozen yogurt in a freezer-safe, airtight container.
- Makes approximately 3 cups.
