Apple Pie Bars
- FOR THE CRUST:
- 2-1/2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Chilled Butter
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 2/3 cups Milk
- FOR THE APPLE FILLING:
- 8 cups Honeycrisp Apples, Peeled, Cored, And Thinly Sliced
- 1 cup Sugar, Plus 2 Teaspoons For Brushing On The Dough
- 2 teaspoons Cinnamon, Divided
- 1/2 teaspoons Nutmeg
- 1 cup Cornflakes Cereal, Crushed
- 1 Egg White
- FOR THE GLAZE:
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1-1/2 Tablespoon Milk
- 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0F.
- For the crust:
- In a medium bowl, stir together flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture is mealy. With a fork, stir in the egg yolk and milk. Divide dough into 2 equal parts and chill in the fridge until ready to use.
- For the apple filling:
- Over the apples, sprinkle 1 cup sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll one half of the dough into a large rectangle and place into the bottom of a greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle cornflakes cereal over the crust, then layer the apple mixture over the cereal. Roll the other half of the dough into a rectangle and place over the apples.
- Brush the top crust with the egg white, remaining sugar, and remaining cinnamon. Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour; the top crust should be lightly browned.
- For the glaze:
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth, then drizzle over the bars while they are still warm.
