Babka

  1. Scald milk and butter.
  2. Soak raisins in warm water.
  3. Beat all eggs and sugar.
  4. Add vanilla, orange rind, nutmeg and mace into egg and sugar mixture.
  5. Take 3/4 cup lukewarm water, 1 tablespoon of flour and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  6. Add yeast; mix and dissolve. Let rise to double its bulk.
  7. Add milk into egg mixture.
  8. Add flour (about 2 cups) with raised yeast.
  9. Keep adding flour slowly and mixing.
  10. Add drained raisins before last 2 cups of flour and beat well.
  11. Let rise in pan to double in bulk, then fill pans and let rise about 1 hour.
  12. Preheat oven to 350u0b0 and bake for 1 hour. Makes 3 in funnel cake pans or makes 5 in regular loaf pans.
