Southern Biscuits
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 c. warm buttermilk
- 2 1/2 c. plain flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 4 tsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. margarine
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- Dissolve yeast in warm buttermilk; set aside.
- Sift together the flour, salt, soda and sugar.
- Cut margarine into dry ingredients.
- Add buttermilk-yeast mixture; stir until well blended.
- Knead and roll out to 1/4-inch thick.
- Cut with biscuit cutter.
- Spray pan with Pam.
- Place biscuits on baking pan so they are touching each other.
- Brush tops with melted butter.
- Place another biscuit on top of buttered biscuit.
- Brush top with butter.
- Let rise at room temperature 1 hour.
- Bake at 425u0b0 for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Makes about 2 dozen.
