Slovenian Goulash
- 2 lb. stew meat, cubed
- 1/2 c. oil
- 1 c. onions, chopped
- 1 c. chopped celery
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 c. water with beef bouillon cube
- 3 carrots (chunks)
- 3 potatoes (chunks)
- salt and pepper to taste
- potatoes (optional; you may prefer to serve mashed with goulash over)
- In a large kettle, prepare ingredients as follows:
- Brown cubed meat thoroughly in the oil (slowly until really brown, stirring several times), then add onions, celery, bay leaf and garlic. Brown and mix.
- Then add water with bouillon cube (mix again).
- Add potatoes and carrots; bring to a boil.
- Simmer slowly until meat and vegetables are tender (approximately 1 hour).
- Serves approximately 6 people with hearty appetites!
