Campfire Cherry Chocolate Surprise
- 1 package (18.25 Oz. Box) Chocolate Cake Mix; Prepared As Directed, Replacing Water With Dr. Pepper
- Dr. Pepper, To Be Used With The Chocolate Cake Mix
- 1 can (20 Oz. Can) Can Cherry Pie Filling
- 1 package (8 Oz.) Brick Cream Cheese
- 1 whole Egg
- 3 Tablespoons Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- Preheat and line the Dutch oven with foil. Pour prepared cake batter (using the Dr. Pepper instead of water called for in the box instructions) into a 12" Dutch oven. Spoon cherry pie filling into clumps over the cake batter. In a small mixing bowl, cream together cream cheese, egg, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Drop by tablespoonfuls over the top of the cake.
- Place the lid on the Dutch oven. Bake using 8-10 briquettes in the bottom and 14-16 briquettes top for 1 hour or until the top center of the cake springs back when touched.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream as topping.
