Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  2. For the crisp:
  3. Place the apple slices in a buttered 9-10" pie plate. In a medium-sized bowl mix together the brown sugar, flour, oats and cinnamon. Cut in the butter until crumbly. Lightly press this mixture over the apples. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until lightly browned.
  4. For the caramel sauce:
  5. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat then stir in the brown sugar until incorporated and sugar is dissolved. Slowly stir in the cream. Bring the sauce up to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Let the sauce cool. Then pour it into a jar and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  6. Serve the crisp warm or at room temperature with the warmed caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
