Grandma Nancy’S Applesauce Cake
- 2 cups Flour
- 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoons Soda
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoons Cloves
- 1-1/2 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cups Crisco
- 2 whole Eggs
- 1 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
- 1 cup Raisins
- 1 cup Chopped Walnuts
- _____
- AMBER SAUCE INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup Butter
- 2 cups Brown Sugar
- 1-1/2 cup Evaporated Milk
- 1-1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
- Sift together first 6 ingredients (I just use a whisk) and set aside. Cream together the sugar and Crisco, then add the eggs, one at a time; beat well. Add applesauce. Add the dry ingredients a little at a time, mixing well. Stir in the raisins and walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees, for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Amber Sauce:
- In a double boiler, melt butter. Add brown sugar, whisk in evaporated milk and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. This sauce reheats nicely in a microwave oven.
