Grandma Nancy’S Applesauce Cake

  1. Sift together first 6 ingredients (I just use a whisk) and set aside. Cream together the sugar and Crisco, then add the eggs, one at a time; beat well. Add applesauce. Add the dry ingredients a little at a time, mixing well. Stir in the raisins and walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees, for 35 to 40 minutes.
  2. Amber Sauce:
  3. In a double boiler, melt butter. Add brown sugar, whisk in evaporated milk and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. This sauce reheats nicely in a microwave oven.
