Mom'S Apple Or Peach Cobbler
- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 4 c. sugar
- 4 c. water
- 3 c. self-rising flour
- 1 c. Crisco
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 4 c. chopped apples or peaches
- Heat oven to 350u0b0.
- Melt butter in a 17 x 11 x 2 1/2-inch baking pan.
- In a saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour until it resembles coarse meal.
- Add milk and stir with fork until dough leaves side of bowl.
- Turn on floured board.
- Knead until smooth.
- Roll out dough in large rectangle (1/4-inch thick).
- Sprinkle apples and cinnamon over dough evenly.
- Roll up like jelly roll.
- Dampen edges with water to seal.
- Slice dough about 1/2-inch thick.
- Place in pan of melted butter.
- Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls.
- This looks like too much liquid, but crust will absorb it.
- Bake approximately 1 1/2 hours or until golden brown.
- You may dot some butter and sprinkle some sugar on top after it bakes awhile.
