5-Star Maple Scones
- 2 cups Flour
- 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 3/4 teaspoons Salt
- 1/2 cups Sugar
- 4 Tablespoons Butter
- 2 Tablespoons Butter Flavored Shortening
- 3/4 cups Heavy Cream
- 1 whole Egg
- 2 teaspoons Maple Flavoring
- _____
- FROSTING INGREDIENTS:
- 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Milk Or Cream
- 2 teaspoons Maple Flavoring
- I use a KitchenAid stand mixer. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Using the dough hook, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Mix well. Cut butter and shortening into chunks and add to the flour mixture; blend until incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, combine cream with beaten egg and maple flavoring, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix until it forms a ball - do not over mix. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Roll dough out and cut into your preferred shape-I use a star cookie cutter and place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Give an inch between scones for spreading and rising. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
- While baking, in a separate bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk and flavoring. Mix well. When scones are still hot, place them on a cooling rack with a jelly roll pan underneath. Pour or brush the frosting over the top of the scones. It will melt into a lovely glaze.
