Walnut Cake
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. ground walnuts
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk and vanilla. Beat on low speed just until combined. Stir in the walnuts. Pour into 3 greased and floured 9 x 1/2-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350u0b0 for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes; remove from pans to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting. Store in refrigerator.
