Pan De Polvos (Powder Bread)
- 5 pounds Flour
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Dry Active Yeast
- 1 cup Water
- 3 teaspoons Anise Extract
- 3 pounds Shortening
- 1 bag Sugar (for Cinnamon Sugar Mixture)
- 1 box Ground Cinnamon, To Taste (for Cinnamon Sugar Mixture)
- In a large bowl, make a cinnamon sugar mixture. Set aside.
- Add anise extract to the cup of water.
- Stir flour, sugar and yeast together.
- Add shortening, leaving approximately 1/2 inch in can.
- Gradually add water/anise mixture.
- Work the dough until it is one big ball.
- Using small amounts of dough, roll out and cut with a small cookie cutter (no larger than 1 inch), or cut dough into small shapes with a knife or pizza cutter.
- Bake cookies at 325F for approximately 15-17 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- Immediately put the cookies in the large bowl with the cinnamon sugar mixture and coat cookies with the cinnamon sugar before transferring them to a serving bowl.
