Pan De Polvos (Powder Bread)

  1. In a large bowl, make a cinnamon sugar mixture. Set aside.
  2. Add anise extract to the cup of water.
  3. Stir flour, sugar and yeast together.
  4. Add shortening, leaving approximately 1/2 inch in can.
  5. Gradually add water/anise mixture.
  6. Work the dough until it is one big ball.
  7. Using small amounts of dough, roll out and cut with a small cookie cutter (no larger than 1 inch), or cut dough into small shapes with a knife or pizza cutter.
  8. Bake cookies at 325F for approximately 15-17 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  9. Immediately put the cookies in the large bowl with the cinnamon sugar mixture and coat cookies with the cinnamon sugar before transferring them to a serving bowl.
