Candy Apples

  1. 1. Wash and dry apples. Remove stems. Push the forks 1/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple.
  2. 2. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
  3. 3. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil. Add lemon juice and food coloring. Heat to 280 F (using a candy thermometer). This should take about 15-20 minutes. Instead of using a thermometer you can test the temperature by dropping a small amount of syrup into a bowl of cold water. It forms a hard ball when it's ready. Remove the candy from the heat.
  4. 4. Holding onto the fork, quickly dip each apple into the candy and swirl it around until it is evenly coated. Allow extra candy to drip off over the pan.
  5. 5. Place candy apples on the prepared sheet to harden.
  6. Bon apple!
