Homemade Chocolate Syrup

  1. In a large sauce pan, add water and cocoa powder and place over medium heat. Constantly stir until cocoa powder is dissolved.
  2. Add sugar and keep stirring the chocolate mixture. Bring to a soft boil and keep stirring for 5 minutes. The longer it cooks, the thicker it gets. Take the pan off the heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Once it has cooled for a few minutes more, stir in the baking soda. This prevents the sugar from crystallizing. If syrup is thick enough, place in a glass container and place in the refrigerator. I let mine sit out for about 10 minutes to thicken more.
