Chocolate Chili
- 2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
- 2 pounds Ground Chuck
- 1 whole Onion, Diced
- 2 Tablespoons Minced Garlic
- 2 envelopes Favorite Chili Seasoning Mix, 1 Oz. Packets
- 1/3 cups Cocoa Powder, Unsweetened
- 1 can 4 Oz Tomato Paste
- 2 cans Diced Tomatoes (14 Oz Cans)
- 1 can 8 Oz. Tomato Sauce
- 2 cans Kidney Beans, Drained (optional, 15 Oz. Cans)
- 2 cups Water
- Optional Garnishes: Corn Chips, Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, Etc
- In a large heavy bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium high heat, heat the olive oil. Once heated, saute the ground beef, onions and garlic in the oil until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are limp, about 5 minutes. Next, stir in chili seasoning and cocoa powder and continue cooking over medium high heat for about a minute until fragrant, followed by the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and beans. The mixture will be somewhat thick. Add water until you get your desired consistency then reduce heat to low and continue cooking, stirring accassionally to prevent scorching.
- Garnish with Fritos corn chips, colby jack cheese or sour cream. I hope you like it as much as my gang does!
