Apple Ginger Bread
- 1/2 c. whole bran cereal
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. boiling water
- 1 egg
- 6 c. thin sliced apples
- 1/4 c. melted butter
- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. light corn syrup
- Mix cereal, molasses, shortening and water.
- Add egg and beat with beater.
- Let stand 5 minutes.
- Sift flour, soda, powder and spices and salt.
- Add cereal mixture.
- Stir until blended.
- Pour into 8 x 8-inch pan.
- Bake 20 minutes in 350u0b0 oven.
- Arrange apples in layers over top.
- Brush with mixture of butter and syrup.
- Bake 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
- Brush apples with milk and broil just a few minutes.
