- FOR THE CAKE:
- 5 whole Eggs
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 1/2 cups Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
- 1/3 cups Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 1/3 cups Sour Cream
- 1 Tablespoon Coarse Ground Salt
- _____
- FOR THE FROSTING:
- 1/2 sticks Butter
- 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine eggs and sugar in a bowl and whisk together until fluffy.
- Add in flours and cocoa powder and beat with a mixer until well blended.
- Gently, fold in sour cream.
- Pour the mixture into a well-greased baking pan and sprinkle a bit of the salt over top. Just a touch will do - a little salt goes a long way!
- Bake for 20 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and allow to cool before frosting.
- To make the buttercream frosting, cream together a half stick of butter (at room temperature) with about a half cup of powdered sugar and a tablespoon of the cocoa powder. Add more sugar/cocoa to thicken. If you need to thin it out a bit, add a splash of milk. This is a super simple frosting that enhances this delicious cake.
