3 Autumn Apple Pie
- 1/2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar, divided
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 6 Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples (3 1/2 lb.), peeled, cored and cut into thin wedges, divided
- 1 unbaked (9-inch) pie shell
- 1/2 c. apple jelly
- Mix 1/2 cup of sugar, the flour and cinnamon.
- Add to half of the apples.
- Toss to coat.
- Turn apple mixture into pie shell, mounding slightly in center.
- Arrange remaining apples on top, slightly overlapping in concentric circles.
- Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- Bake on middle rack in preheated 400u0b0 oven for 40 to 50 minutes, until crust is browned and apples cooked through.
- If necessary, cover the crust with strips of foil to prevent excessive browning.
- Stir jelly over low heat until melted; brush on top of hot pie.
