Grandma'S Smothered Chicken

  1. Heat oil in deep 12-inch skillet over low heat 5 minutes. Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper; place in hot skillet.
  2. Cover chicken with yellow and green onions.
  3. Cook chicken over medium heat 10 minutes.
  4. Turn chicken.
  5. Cook 10 minutes longer.
  6. Reduce heat to low; cook 5 minutes.
  7. Turn.
  8. Cook 5 minutes longer.
  9. Remove chicken from skillet.
  10. Place in large pot or Dutch oven.
  11. Set aside.
  12. Continue heating skillet over low heat.
  13. Stir together flour, soy sauce, 2 cups hot water and onion powder in medium bowl with fork or whisk.
  14. Cook flour mixture in hot skillet, stirring constantly until boils and thickens.
  15. Stir in remaining 1 1/2 cups hot water.
  16. Pour over chicken and simmer over low heat 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  17. Serves 4 to 6.
