St. Patrick’S Day Cake Balls
- 1 box Yellow Cake Mix (18 Ounce Box)
- Additional Required Ingredients Specified In Mix Package (typically Water, Eggs And Oil)
- 1 bottle Green Food Coloring (you'll Only Need A Couple Drops - To Your Desired Color)
- 1 can Vanilla Cake Frosting, 16 Ounce Tub
- 4 cups Semi-sweet Melting Chocolate
- Start by baking the cake according to the package instructions, combining the mix with the additional required ingredients specified in mix package (typically water, eggs and oil) and then adding green food coloring to the uncooked batter until it reaches your desired green-ness. Bake cake according to package instructions.
- When the cake is done, let it cool for a few minutes then break it apart into a large mixing bowl. Place the mixing bowl in the fridge or freezer until the cake is completely cooled. Remove the mixing bowl from the freezer and with a fork, completely break apart the cake into small crumbs. Add the entire can of frosting to the cake and, here comes the messy part, combine the two together with your hands until you can no longer see any frosting. Your mixture should be moist but not gooey.
- Place a sheet of wax paper down onto a cookie sheet. Using your hands, make small balls of the mixture with your hands - about quarter sized.
- When you're done making balls of all your cake mixture, place the cookie sheet back in the fridge or freezer (depending on how long you want to wait) and let them set up until they are firm. You'll be coating them with hot, melted chocolate so you don't want them to melt!
- Using a double boiler, melt your chocolate over boiling water until it's nice and smooth. I like to use a spoon and fork combo to coat these cake balls in chocolate - they're not the easiest to work with during the dunking process so go with whatever way works for you! Dip the balls into the chocolate and completely coat the cake balls in chocolate. Then place them back on the wax paper to harden and cool. Feel free to decorate to your liking!
