Boktie (A Czechoslovakian Dessert)

  1. 1. Make filling first, as it needs to cool.
  2. 2. To make the filling, mix poppy seeds, butter, sugar, milk, cinnamon and cornstarch in a medium saucepan and cook over low heat for 25-30 minutes until thick. Cool well before tasting, it burns!
  3. 3. Mix yeast in the warm water.
  4. 4. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs.
  5. 5. Add sour cream, milk and yeast mixture.
  6. 6. Add flour and salt and mix thoroughly; knead until smooth.
  7. 7. Let rise for about an hour.
  8. 8. Punch down, divide into three pieces and roll out. Spread filling and seal. If you want small rolls, break off pieces about 2 inches square, flatten with fingers and put the filling in the center, roll and seal well.
  9. 9. Let rise for 30 minutes and then bake at 400 degrees in a preheated oven for 15 minutes or until browned.
