Chocolate Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cake
- 1/2 cups Shortening
- 1-1/2 cup Sugar, Plus 2 Tablespoons For Sprinkling
- 2 whole Eggs
- 2 cups Flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 3 Tablespoons Cocoa
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/2 teaspoons Cinnamon
- 2 cups Applesauce
- 1/2 bags Chocolate Chips (about 5 To 6 Oz. Total)
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- Cream together 1 1/2 cups sugar, shortening, and eggs. Sift in flour, salt, cocoa, soda, and cinnamon. Add the applesauce and stir together.
- Grease and flour a 9x13 pan. Pour batter into the pan. Sprinkle the batter with remaining 2 tablespoons sugar and chocolate chips.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes at 350F.
- Mix approximately 1 cup powdered sugar and 1/4 cup water to make a very soupy glaze. Glaze the cake when it is done and still hot.
