Chocolate Star Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream together shortening, sugar, brown sugar, and peanut butter. Add egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat well.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to the peanut butter mixture, mixing well.
  4. Roll dough into small/medium-sized balls. How large you go depends on whether you want more cookie or more candy in each bite. Roll balls in a plate of extra sugar, coating entirely. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and top each cookie with a chocolate star, pressing it in gently. Return cookies to the oven and bake for 2 to 3 more minutes.
  5. (I have found that after a batch or two, I have to reduce the initial 7 minutes to 5 or 6. Keep an eye on your cookies!)
