The Best Sugar Cookies
- 2-1/2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Cream Of Tartar
- 1 cup Butter
- 1-1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 whole Egg
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoons Almond Extract
- In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. In a large bowl, blend butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined. Cover and chill about 2 hours.
- Heat oven to 375u0b0F. Cover work surface with a little flour. Roll dough out on floured surface until desired thickness (I generally roll out to about 1/4 inch thick). Cut into shapes and bake until the edges are light brown and the cookies have set, usually 7 or 8 minutes.
- Once cookies have cooled completely, decorate with icing and sprinkles. They are also tasty without any extra decorations. Serve with a tall glass of cold milk.
