The Best Sugar Cookies

  1. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. In a large bowl, blend butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined. Cover and chill about 2 hours.
  2. Heat oven to 375u0b0F. Cover work surface with a little flour. Roll dough out on floured surface until desired thickness (I generally roll out to about 1/4 inch thick). Cut into shapes and bake until the edges are light brown and the cookies have set, usually 7 or 8 minutes.
  3. Once cookies have cooled completely, decorate with icing and sprinkles. They are also tasty without any extra decorations. Serve with a tall glass of cold milk.
