Rainbow Cake! (Yellow Cake Base)
- 2 cups Cake Flour
- 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoons Kosher Salt
- 1 cup Butter (unsalted Is Best)
- 1-1/2 cup White Sugar
- 8 whole Egg Yolks
- 1-1/2 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 3/4 cups Milk
- 6 containers Assorted Colors Of Food Coloring Gels
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round pans. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated. Separate into 6 different bowls, and add color gels into the batter. Remember a little goes a long way, but make them as BOLD (add a lot) as you want!
- Now comes the fun part. Using a measuring cup or disher, place scoops of each colored batter randomly into prepared pans. If you would like a marbled effect, swirl the colored batter together with a toothpick before placing into the oven.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until tops spring back when lightly tapped. Cool 15 minutes before turning out onto cooling racks.
