Upside Down Apple Tarte Tatin
- 1/2 cups Butter, Unsalted
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/2 Tablespoons Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 3 whole Golden Delicious Apples
- 1 package Store-Bought Pie Crust
- Peel, core, and slice apples in half.
- In an oven appropriate pan (I use a stainless steel All Clad saute pan), melt butter and sugar over medium heat until it turns a light golden color. Remove from heat and add cinnamon and vanilla. Place apples face down (so that the cores are closest to the pan) and cover with store bought pie crust. Push the pie crust down around the apples, making sure to cover the apples completely around the edges.
- *** NOTE: You may have to roll out the dough thinner depending on what size pan you use.
- Transfer pan into the oven and bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until crust is browned.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before inverting onto a large plate. EAT UP!
- *** NOTE: You can substitute the vanilla extract with 2 vanilla beans, cut lengthwise and scraped and you can substitute the ground cinnamon with 2 cinnamon sticks.
