Naan

  1. 1.) In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand about 10 minutes.
  2. 2.) Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough.
  3. 3.) On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for 6 to 8 minutes.
  4. 4.) Generously oil a large mixing bowl, and place dough in bowl. Cover bowl with a damp cloth, and set aside to rise.
  5. 5.) Let dough rise for 1 hour. The amount of dough should double in volume.
  6. 5.) Knead garlic into dough after it has risen, then pinch off small handfuls of dough. Roll dough into 1 inch balls, and place on a tray or plate.
  7. 7.) Cover tray/plate with a towel, and allow to rise 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  8. 8.) Butter a large frying pan, and heat pan on stove at medium to high heat.
  9. 9.) Lightly flatten one ball of dough and place on greased pan. Cook for 2 minutes, or until naan is puffy and lightly browned.
  10. 10.) Brush uncooked side of dough with butter, and flip over.
  11. 11.) Brush cooked side of dough with butter, and cook until browned, another 2 to 3 minutes.
  12. 12.) Remove from grill, and repeat until all of the dough balls are prepared.
  13. 13.) Use as bread, or eat plain. It's delicious either way!
