Yeast Biscuits Aka My Friends Beg Me To Make Them
- 1 package Yeast
- 1 cup Luke Warm Water
- 2 cups Flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Wesson Oil
- As my sweet grandmother wrote it:
- Dissolve yeast in Water. Sift Flour, salt and sugar together. Add yeast mixture to flour.
- Add Wesson Oil. Let rise 1 hour. Roll out 1/2 inch thickness and cut in biscuits. Then turn over in greased pan and rise another hour. Bake 450F. Makes 16 biscuits.
- Fay Mayo.
- Addendum: Recipe originally called for 2 Table S. Wesson Oil. I think that melted butter is much tastier.
- If you are feeling really lazy and the craving for these rolls becomes too much, you can just tear off bits after they rise the first time, roll them into neat blobs (but for the love of Pete, flour your hands first. It's s-t-i-c-k-y!) and arrange them like drop biscuits in a round pan. I bake them in a round pan with a tablespoon (or two!) of melted butter in the bottom.
- Once I put them in the pan, I flip them so they are buttery on the top. Grandmother didn't say how long to bake them, but I think I usually do 8-10 minutes at 450. Degrees, not percent.
- Do try to under bake them if you plan on heating them up later. Light golden brown is just lovely.
