Southwest Iowa'S Sweet 'N Sour Sauerkraut

  1. Preheat oven to 325u0b0.
  2. Melt butter in large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add onions and apples, saute until softened, 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Combine onion and apples with sauerkraut in large mixing bowl.
  5. Stir in tomatoes, brown sugar and wine.
  6. Season with caraway seed and pepper.
  7. Place mixture in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  8. Cover tightly with foil and bake 1 1/4 hours.
  9. Uncover and bake another 1/2 hour.
  10. Serve as a side dish to roast turkey. Serves 12 people.
