Cake Mix Extender
- 1 box (about 18 Oz.) Duncan Hines Butter Cake Mix
- 1 cup Cake Flour
- 1 cup Sour Cream
- 1 cup White Sugar, Granulated
- 4 whole Eggs
- 1 stick Margarine, Room Temperature
- 2/3 cups Water
- 1/3 teaspoons Salt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Flavoring
- Combine all ingredients. Mix on low speed for about 30 seconds. Mix for 4 minutes on medium to medium-high speed. Pour into pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Tips:
- I've tried this with unsalted butter as well. It is good, but I think the cake is more moist with margarine.
- Cake is done when an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Also, when you see the cake pulling away from the side of pan, it is done.
- This recipe makes more batter than the typical cake mix, so be prepared to use extra pans or a larger-sized pan.
- My caramel cream frosting is delicious with it!
