Garlic Cheddar Biscuits (Completely From Scratch)
- 2 cups All-purpose Flour
- 3 teaspoons Garlic Powder, Divided
- 2-1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoons Baking Soda
- 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 6 Tablespoons Butter, Cold
- 3 Tablespoons Shortening Cold
- 3/4 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 3 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
- Preheat oven to 450 F.
- In a medium sized bowl combine flour, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the butter and shortening until flour looks similar to crumbled feta cheese-coarse crumbs.
- Add cheddar cheese and mix to combine. Sometimes I add up to 1 cup of cheddar cheese, sometimes I use a mix of Mexican cheeses.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the milk. Stir to combine. Drop the dough by large spoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet.
- Bake at 450 F for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile combine melted butter with remaining 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. After 10 minutes, pull the biscuits out of the oven and brush the tops with the butter mixture. Put them back into the oven and bake for 3-4 minutes longer or until golden brown.
