Oatmeal Jelly Cookies

  1. Turn oven to 375u0b0.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Fold in oats.
  4. Into a bowl put soft shortening and vanilla. Mix in slowly the brown sugar.
  5. Beat in vigorously the egg.
  6. Stir in about 1/3 of the flour mixture.
  7. When smooth, stir in about 1/2 of the milk.
  8. Repeat until all flour and milk are used.
  9. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls on greased baking sheet, leaving 2-inch space between each.
  10. With back of teaspoon, press hollow in each.
  11. Put into hollows 1/2 teaspoon jelly.
  12. Bake 12 minutes or until brown. Makes 2 dozen cookies.
