Marshmallow Chocolate Cake

  1. Heat oven to 350u0b0.
  2. Line bottom of three 1 1/2-inch deep (8-inch) layer cake pans.
  3. Into large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, salt and baking soda.
  4. Drop in shortening; pour in chocolate, 3/4 cup milk and vanilla extract.
  5. With mixer at medium speed, beat 2 minutes, scraping bowl and beaters as necessary.
  6. Add baking powder, 1/2 cup milk and eggs.
  7. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  8. Turn into pans; bake 35 to 40 minutes or until cake tester, inserted in center, comes clean.
  9. Cool in pans on wire racks about 10 minutes.
  10. Remove from pans; remove paper and place layers on racks.
