Grooms Cakes
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. chopped dates
- 1 c. dark raisins
- 1 c. dried cherries, chopped
- 1 c. dried apricots, chopped
- 1 c. dried apples, chopped
- 3/4 c. brandy (Christian Bros.)
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. flour
- 1 c. black walnuts
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- granulated sugar and cinnamon, mixed to taste or powdered sugar
- Several hours ahead, prepare the fruit mixture by mixing the first 9 ingredients; bring to a boil for 5 minutes.
- Reduce to low heat; simmer for 30 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature (this takes about 2 hours).
