Kentucky Stack Cake
- 3 c. plain flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground allspice
- 2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 c. Crisco shortening
- 4 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- cooked dried apples
- Sift
- together
- dry
- ingredients;
- set
- aside.
- Cream together
- sugar
- and
- shortening
- until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs,
- onett a
- time, beating well after each addition.
- Add dry ingredients
- and
- buttermilk, alternately to creamed mixture, beating
- well
- after each addition, starting and ending with
- the dry ingredients.
- Pour a very small amount of batter into several greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
- Bake at
- 325u0b0 until done.
- Let layers cool.
- Stack layers on a cake plate,
- spreading cooked dried apples that have been seasoned to taste, between each layer.
- Yield: a very large stack cake.
