Sausage Cheese Grits Casserole

  1. Bring salted water to boil.
  2. Slowly add quick cooking grits (not instant).
  3. Return to boil, cover, reduce heat and cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and add cheese; stir until melted. Add milk, butter, Worcestershire sauce and garlic salt.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Beat egg in small bowl.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon grits mixture until blended and add back to grits.
  8. Spoon half of grits into an 8-inch square baking dish, top with one pound of cooked and drained sausage and cover with remaining grits.
  9. Cover and chill 8 hours.
