Strawberry Meringue Cake

  1. Combine cake mix, egg yolks, orange peel and mix.
  2. Beat 4 minutes at medium speed.
  3. Pour into 2 greased and floured round cake pans.
  4. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar to soft peaks. Gradually add the 1 cup sugar, beating to stiff peaks.
  5. Spread meringue evenly over batter.
  6. Bake at 350u0b0 for 35 minutes and let cool.
  7. Remove from pan, meringue side up.
  8. Mash 1/2 cup strawberries with 2 tablespoons sugar; whip cream until stiff. Spread 1/2 of cream mixture over bottom meringue.
  9. Reserving 2 cups whole berries, slice remainder and place over creamed mixture.
  10. Top with remaining cream mixture and whole berries.
