Apple Dumplings

  1. Combine the first 4 ingredients; bring to a boil.
  2. Stir in butter.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add milk all at once; stir only until dry ingredients are moistened.
  5. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness on floured surface.
  6. Cut into six 6-inch squares.
  7. Place apple in center of each; sprinkle each generously with cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg.
  8. Dot with butter.
  9. Moisten edges of squares and fold corners to center; pinch together.
  10. Place one inch apart in an 11 1/2 x 7-inch pan.
  11. Bake for 1 hour at 350u0b0.
