Sausage And Green Chili Strata
- 3/4 lb. (3 c.) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 lb. lean sausage
- 5 slices white bread
- 1 (4 oz.) can green chilies or more to taste
- 4 eggs
- 2 c. milk
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. pepper
- Shred 3/4 pound sharp Cheddar cheese (3 cups). In large pan, brown sausage over medium heat; drain excess fat and set sausage aside. Lightly butter one side of 5 slices bread; cut into cubes. Sprinkle 1/2 bread cubes in bottom of greased 12 x 7-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with half the cheese, 1/2 can chilies and 1/2 the sausage. Layer remaining bread cubes, cheese, chilies and sausage. Beat 4 eggs together with 2 cups milk, salt and pepper. Pour evenly over casserole layers. Cover and chill overnight.
- Place uncovered baking dish in 350u0b0 oven. Bake 1 hour or until golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
