Greek Easter Cookies

  1. Heat oven to 350u0b0 (moderate).
  2. Mix the first 5 ingredients together thoroughly.
  3. Measure flour by dipping method (or by sifting).
  4. Blend flour, baking powder and cloves; stir into butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Shape dough in small balls, about 3/4-inch in diameter, or in cylindrical shapes, formed in 2-inch long half moons.
  6. Place cookies on lightly greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until cookies are set, but not browned.
  8. Let stand 2 minutes before removing from baking sheet.
  9. When cool, dust with confectioners sugar.
  10. (For a more authentic Greek cookie, omit ground cloves and place a whole clove in center of
  11. each cookie before baking.)
  12. Makes 8 dozen cookies.
