Monkey Bread

  1. Mix shortening, sugar, 1/2 cup hot water, salt and yeast cake. (If you use dry yeast mix with 1/4 cup cold water and add the other 1/4 cup water later instead of 1/2 cup cold water.)
  2. Beat egg and add 1/2 of the flour and cold water.
  3. Beat thoroughly and add the rest of the flour.
  4. Mix and put in a tight container overnight in the refrigerator.
  5. Roll out on floured surface.
  6. Cut in 1 1/2-inch strips, then in 1 1/2-inch squares.
  7. Melt real butter.
  8. Dip each dough square in butter and lay in tube (angel food) pan.
  9. Fit the pieces together.
  10. Make two layers.
  11. Let rise 2 hours before baking. Bake at 400u0b0 for 15 to 20 minutes.
