Picadillo
- 1 tsp. vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1 jalapeo pepper, seeded and finely chopped
- 1 large clove garlic, minced
- 1 lb. ground turkey or sirloin
- 1 large chopped and peeled Granny Smith apple
- 1/2 c. water
- 1/4 c. sliced pimento-stuffed olives
- 1/4 c. raisins
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
- 1 (14.5 oz.) can diced tomatoes (undrained)
- toasted slivered almonds
- Heat oil in large pan.
- Saut onion 3 minutes.
- Add jalapeo and garlic; saut 1 minute.
- Add meat; saut 3 minutes or until brown, stirring to crumble.
- Stir in apple and next 7 ingredients; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until thick.
- Remove from heat; remove cinnamon sticks and stir in almonds.
- Makes five 1-cup servings.
