Taste Treat Chili
- 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
- 1/2 lb. pan-fry sausage
- 2 c. chopped onion
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced (3 tsp. dry)
- 2 (14 1/2 oz.) cans chicken broth
- 3 medium apples, chopped, peeling on (green, yellow or red)
- 2 sweet bell peppers, chopped
- 2 (4 1/2 oz.) cans diced green chile peppers
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- 2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp. curry powder
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 (15 oz.) can red kidney beans (or two if you like lots of beans in your chili)
- 2/3 c. slivered almond
- Brown the beef and sausage in large dutch oven; add onions and garlic, stirring for about 1 minute.
- Drain.
- Stir in remaining ingredients, except for the kidney beans, slivered almonds and toppings.
- Bring to boil; reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add kidney beans and almonds, heat through. Serve hot with corn chips, Nacho chips, crackers or cornbread and your favorite toppings.
